There have been many improvements, developments and changes that have taken place throughout the years. The largest undertaking was replacing all but 3 of the older vintage cabins with modern deluxe vacation cottages starting in 1990's along with additional cottages making 18 total cottage and replacing the heated pool & patio area. Along with a lot of elbow grease and determination that is essential for the continual maintenance of a successful resort.
WISHBONE RESORT...
...is for the true boating and water enthusiast, situated on the Cass Lake Chain of Lakes and located in the heart of the Chippewa National Forest. You'll find paddle boating, kayaking, canoing and sailing all right from our resort. A wonderful place where you can fish, swim, hike, watch Bald Eagles in flight and hear the warbled sounds of our State Bird, the Common Loon. Take a leisure stroll and pick some wild berries or just relax and enjoy the peaceful wilderness around you. Wishbone Resort is only 220 miles north of the Twin Cities. We are surrounded by the beauty of the forest, yet right on the waters edge.
We are only 15 miles from Bemidji, MN and 9 miles from Cass Lake, MN. There you can find fine dining & restaurants, shopping, amusement parks, theaters, golf courses, historical museums, casinos and Minnesota's oldest State Park, Itasca State Park Established in 1891. In this 32,000 acre sanctuary, the mighty Mississippi River begins its 2,552 mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico.
Beautiful and scenic Cass Lake is home to some of the most relaxing and yet challenging fishing in northern Minnesota. It's a lake just right for any kind of fishing, offering a rare opportunity for anglers of all ages to fish for ever elusive muskie or catching a trophy sized walleye.
Even the most experienced angler will find a challenge in fishing the maze of steep drop-offs, mid-lake bars and sunken islands referred to as a "structure fisherman's paradise". There is abundant habitat to provide enough food and cover to grow numerous walleye, muskie and other game species including northern pike, largemouth bass, perch, crappie and bluegill.

CASS LAKE
is the largest lake on the world famous Mississippi Chain of Lakes, with nearly 16,000 acres in size and more than 100 feet deep in spots, also hosts islands including the two Potato Islands and Cedar Island. Cass Lake offers a rare opportunity for anglers as there is excellent natural reproduction of Walleye and Perch, the primary species in Cass Lake.
STAR ISLAND
located in the middle of Cass Lake, is one of the more unique features in the Chippewa National Forest. Named for its star shape, “Star Island” is the largest of the four islands in Cass Lake. Star Island has over eight miles of shoreline and encompasses 980 acres of both public land and private homes.
LAKE WINDIGO
sitting inside of Star Island forms the "Only Lake within a Lake" in the northern hemisphere. Lake Windigo’s special location earned it a notation in the television series Ripley's Believe It Or Not, the lake was designated as being the only lake within a lake in the Northern Hemisphere. There are a few other such lakes. Lake Windigo covers 199 acres with a maximum depth of 25 feet and receives accolades from everyone who has visited its shores. Three public portages lead into Lake Windigo along with six miles of hiking trails along the high banks and deep woods of the island, providing good opportunities for nature exploration.
ANDRUSIA LAKE
located between Big Wolf Lake and Allen's Bay of Cass Lake, is a quality fishing lake best-noted for its excellent walleye fishing all year long. Andrusia is particularly popular in the spring and fall when anglers take advantage of the seasonal migration of walleyes before and after the spawn. Muskies, northern pike, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and jumbo perch are all present in fishable numbers in Andrusia.
PIKE BAY LAKE
is 4,760 acres with a maximum depth of 95 feet, a clear lake with deep weed growth and a series of underwater islands that make it an interesting and productive lake to fish. Provides excellent musky, walleye, pike and jumbo perch fishing.
BIG RICE LAKE & LITTLE RICE
the northern most lake on the Cass Lake chain is located up the Turtle River from Kitchi Lake and Little Rice Lake. Big Rice Lake is known for it’s bluegill and crappie fishing, but also provides good walleye, northern pike, and largemouth bass fishing. The Turtle River is a State designated canoe route with maintained camping and rest areas along the way. Plan a scenic boat ride up the Turtle River to the remote lakes of the Cass Lake chain.
BIG WOLF LAKE
located up the Mississippi River from Andrusia, is best-known for its walleye fishing, especially in the spring and fall. Big Wolf gives up an occasional trophy muskie and also has some large northern pike and a few largemouth bass. Jumbo perch are the most abundant pan fish.
KITCHI LAKE
just to the north of Cass. Accessible through a channel in the Turtle River and a small lake called Pug Hole. Kitchi is full of pike, walleye, bass, bluegill, crappie, perch and some huge muskie.
